When to choose which

  • Chuck 70 — heavier canvas, higher foxing, OrthoLite cushioning, more structure. Better for walking and lasting. Lead live pick: Parchment high.
  • Standard Chuck Taylor All Star — lighter canvas, thinner foxing, minimal cushion. Soft, familiar classic. Harder floor feel by afternoon if you walk all day.
  • Lift / platform — height is the feature. Same toe cap language, different last and stack. Do not use Lift sizing or ride as a proxy for 70 or classic All Star.

Build, foxing, cushion, fit

Canvas. Standard All Star uses lighter canvas — flexible, breaks in fast, wrinkles sooner. Chuck 70 uses denser canvas that holds a crease, with extra stitching at stress points and a real leather heel patch (not a printed stand-in).

Foxing. All Star foxing is thinner, usually bright white, with a larger glossier toe cap. Chuck 70 foxing is higher and more substantial; cream rubber is common (including Parchment). Taller foxing puts more rubber at the flex point where standard Chucks often wear through.

Cushioning. Standard All Star is a thin insole on a flat vulcanized sole. Chuck 70 adds a cushioned OrthoLite insole on a more substantial rubber sole. Still not a running shoe — just a canvas Chuck you can walk in longer.

Fit. Converse guidance treats both as running about a half size large; many people size down a half in both. That is brand guidance, not a promise every foot will agree. On foot, the 70 often feels more locked-in; the standard All Star can feel roomier in a floppy way. Unisex listings use men's sizing with the women's equivalent on the variant — read the size string.
